門牌忌四之配套，以維持左右協調 Methods to balance house numbers opposite skipped 4

摘要：門牌若跳四，要有配套規定，以免失去左右平衡。

Abstract: If house numbers skip ..4 then additional rules will be needed to keep the numbers on both sides in sync.

台灣多縣市的門牌編釘規則已含『尾數逢「四」，得輪空不編』類條文，卻忽略了配套，結果路的左右邊失去了平衡：

Most of Taiwan's city and county laws now mandate skipping numbers that end in "4" when assigning new house numbers. However they lack additional rules to deal with the imbalance in growth this causes:

某路門牌號碼兩邊差遠 Number on a either side of a certain road out of sync.

因一邊丟掉 4, 14, 24... 必然的結果即：

Because one side of the road disposed of 4, 14, 24... the results will be:

越走越偏。

The farther one goes, the worse it gets.

門牌號碼「一邊一國」有什麼不好呢？ Two sides out of sync, so what, who cares?

舉例：找 1202 號。路若寬，看不到對面，原來只要開車到 1201 號，停車，走過馬路就到了。卻很不幸， 1201 號過馬路竟然是 1502 號，非 1202 號！此邏輯國外從未遇過。

Example: look for house 1202. On a wide road, we can't see the numbers on the other side. Normally we would just park our car at 1201 and walk across the street. Alas, we find we are at 1502, not 1202. No where else in the world will you find such "logic."

配套措施 Remedial methods

那麼我們原來含四之理想每公里 400 個號碼的門牌方案，

Our original (containing ..4) 400 numbers per kilometer plan,

加上「忌四」及「配套」之後只會變成每公里 500 個號碼的門牌而已。

最好是直接「又忌三」，

但為了避免「台灣 20% 門牌預留給外星人」等聳動新聞標題，可考慮「障眼法」，如左側跳掉未數 03, 15, 23, 35, 43, 55, 63, 75, 83, 95, 同時也不全然針對末數 3, 也不全然針對末數 5, 以期民眾不太發現。

However to avoid headlines like "20% of Taiwan house numbers are reserved for extraterrestrials" we might instead consider a "sleight of hand," e.g., on the left side skipping numbers ending in 03, 15, 23, 35, 43, 55, 63, 75, 83, 95, i.e., not totally skipping ..3 and not totally skipping ..5, in the hopes that the public won't notice.

民情要什麼我們都能配合，只是制定避四時，也要制定配套…

We can accommodate to whatever the public wants. Just remember when skipping ..4 remedial methods are needed.

無人提倡重編門牌，只是說初編、整編時，要有配套…

Nobody is saying we should renumber existing houses. We are only discussing new numbers and when a whole street is renumbered... remedial methods are needed.

對，「跳四」原來就愚蠢無誤。

P.S., Oh, by the way, the whole practice of skipping ..4 is silly in the first place.
