First we tried these concave hulls. We had to thin out the data beforehand, else there would be too many confusingly overlapping hulls.

Zooming in to the southeast (lower right) corner of the previous map, we then tried this "cenrtoid + (number of streets)" approach. We no longer need to thin out the data first. Alas, you e.g., do not see 松竹 (Songzhu) here, as we are now just looking at the east part of the previous image. And as the 松竹 street name group stretches far and wide westward, its centroid is off the left edge of the map.

But did you notice in the image above, there are shared letters 太﹑ 和﹑ 順﹑ 祥…

To get more familiar with where we live, we could memorize villages

    Introduction

    我們可以看地圖， 背各區裡之各里的位置。 但是若想做超級送貨員， 不用看手機， 已經知道什麼街大概在什麼地方， 那不如背街名群， 至少在台中市。

  2. Many people memorize the locations of all the provinces in their country, districts in their city, etc.

    Here in Taichung, after memorizing the location of all the Districts, what might be the next step? Memorizing Villages of a District?

    No. It turns out there is something much more useful to memorize citywide: street name groups, and they even cross Village and District boundaries too.

    Note we are only talking about common addressing patterns in Taichung, Taiwan. E.g.,

    123 Dadun 14th Street, West District, Taichung 403000

    1. 超人送貨員
      Super Delivery Person

      Whereas the Average Delivery Person, upon being given an address, is a slave to their cellphone to even get them to the general area.

      Ah, but the Super Delivery Person, using Uncle Dan's®™ Method, zooms off, only fumbling with their cellphone at the final stage of their journey, well out of sight of the boss.

      So what is Uncle Dan's®™ Method? Well you see, the Average Delivery Person, in an effort to also zoom off impressively, perhaps might use their spare time to memorize Villages. But we are smarter than that. We know that Villages might not even appear in an address. Plus nobody on the street usually even knows what Village they are in, unless they perhaps actually live and vote there.

      But the Super Delivery Person, noticing that Taichung's streets often follow a pattern,

      123 Dadun 14th Street
      321 Dadun 17th Street,

      which we can isolate into a root, "Dadun". So all the Super Delivery Person needs to do is memorize where all these groups are, and zoooom... off they go!

      那麼「區」呢？
      What about Districts?

      No matter Super Delivery Person, or Average Delivery Person, we will assume they have both memorized where all the Districts (Nantun, Xitun, Taiping… of Taichung lie. (Else they are in big trouble…)

  4. 製什麼樣的地圖？
    What kind of map to make?

    We'll simply make "concave hulls" enclosing all the Dadun streets, all the Jungong streets, etc.
